Happy Almost Halloween!!! We have lots of fun pretending Halloween is scary, with its dark furbutts, things undead and evil, and unknown things that go bump in the night. But if you are proudly owned by loving pets, thinking about your pets getting sick and the prospect of high vet bills is the kind of scary that’s no fun!
So we have formed our own nonprofit, Pet Vet Help. Our goal is to help as many people as possible pay unaffordable vet bills, so that pets can be healthy and happy in their furever homes. As we mentioned in our last fundraiser, the costs of veterinary care keep pace with the costs of medical care, so increase much faster than the rate of inflation while wages stagnate.

Well, the way things are now, some who used to be able to afford vet care find themselves falling behind. Of course some lost good-paying jobs during the recession and have not recovered. Some are disabled or retired and so their COLA doesn’t cover the accelerated inflation of veterinary care.

Many years back, I thought my Oreo was deathly sick. He was eating a lot and drinking a lot and acting okay, but suddenly started losing a lot of weight rapidly. I thought it was the dread big C. I had gone through chemotherapy with an earlier pootie and it had been terrible, I’d decided I would never put a cat through that again. So with money being tight, I thought about not taking Oreo to the doctor. But I couldn’t just let him waste away, so we went for a vet visit. Well, it turned out not to be cancer at all, but diabetes! Totally treatable with diet and insulin. He has now been living with this condition for almost 10 years! I am SO relieved and happy that I spent the money. But it was a struggle to find that money. I don’t want to have to ever face a decision for my pets based on not having money. And I don’t want any other pet-owned human to have to struggle with those decisions either.
So we want to help loved and loving humans keep their pets healthy in their homes, able to afford the vet when they need diagnosis and treatment. So please donate to Pet Vet Help and help us help those who need vets; because sometimes, whether or not our pets are happy about it, it’s time for vet visits, and they would be glad for the visit if they knew how it keeps them well. We are holding fundraisers for each holiday to help as many pets as we can. We are applying for 501(c)(3) status so that your donations will be tax deductible.

Until we receive our 501(c)(3) status from the IRS, we cannot set up a discount nonprofit account at PayPal. So for now, please donate via PayPal to my business partnership email address. There is no other fundraising going into that account, so Pet Vet funds will go into my Pet Vet Help spreadsheet. For now, donations can be made to:

Detailed instructions for PayPal, for those who have asked: To donate via PayPal, if you already have an account, please go to www.paypal.com… and log in, proceed to “My PayPal" and hit “Send & Request". You should see a screen that looks like this:

Please choose the icon on the left, “Send money to friends and family”. That way neither you nor we will be charged for the money transfer when you use your linked bank account.
If you do not have a PayPal account and do not want to log in, then go to the above PayPal Home page and hit “Send”. You will then see this drop down from the top:

Please type in the above email address and the amount you wish to donate, and hit “Continue”. The top of your screen will change to this:

Again, please select the option on the left, “This is to friends or family,” so that no one is charged for the money transfer, and then proceed. I believe there is a small charge if you use a credit card, but none if you use a bank account.

Yes, vet bills can be a burden. Even pugly, you might say. But we have a plan. Please help us help others. We thank you and all pets thank you for your support!
