Letter from Abigail Adams to John Adams, March 31, 1776:In the new Code of Laws which I suppose it will be necessary for you to make I desire you would Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors.... If perticuliar care and attention is not paid to the Laidies we are determined to foment a Rebelion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice, or Representation.
I struggle with my decision, though, because I am a strong believer in progressive principles, particularly that "socialism" will allow for a better quality of life for the poor and middle class. From what I have heard about Bernie, he seems to stand more strongly for those principles. My choice will come down to who will better represent the principles I value. If the candidates are fairly equal, then I'll vote for Hillary. If Bernie is a much stronger advocate for progressive principles, then I'll vote for Bernie.
If only a female candidate were running who would be a strong progressive. Oh, Liz Warren, why did you not run and save me this quandary!?!?!?!?
But I have accepted the fact that Liz is not running. So I want more information. I went to hillaryclinton.com and read more about her stance on the economic issues of our time. I didn't find many specifics.
So does anyone have more information on Hillary's specific economic policies? How much is she considering raising the minimum wage? She also mentions "enhancing" Social Security. Is that the same as Bernie's expanding Social Security? If not, what does she have in mind? Can I trust her to push to raise the minimum wage and expand Social Security as strongly as Bernie would?
Yes, I realize there are other issues we might focus on. But unless you all convince me otherwise, I think this is the defining issue. Because I assume that both Hillary and Bernie would support civil rights. It's the economy where, it seems to me, they might differ the most.
